Liverpool keeper Loris Karius catches Virgil van Dijk’s HEAD instead of ball during 5-0 Champions League win in Porto

LORIS KARIUS is on a mission to prove he is Liverpool’s No1 – by catching everything in sight.

That includes £75million signing Virgil van Dijk’s HEAD.

These hilarious pictures show Karius, 24, clamping his hands down on the flying Dutchman’s noggin during last night’s 5-0 Champions League win at Porto.

The German has admitted to being “comfortable” playing with Van Dijk, 26, ahead of him.

He said: “Virgil has played quite a bit now and we’re getting more used to each other – that’s important for the team.

“He’s a top player – that’s why Liverpool paid the price they did for him.

“Of course he has to adapt a bit because our style is so different. We defend high. He needs to get used to Dejan (Lovren) and Joel (Matip).

“But the more he gets used to our style, he’s finding his feet more and more.

“It’s good to see and as a keeper you feel comfortable having players like that in front of you.”

Whether or not Van Dijk is comfortable being put in a headlock is a different story.

The “catch” draws parallels to when West Ham stopper Adrian mistook team-mate Cheikhou Kouyate’s bonce for the ball against Tottenham in January.

Karius has won the nod ahead of Simon Mignolet in goal for Jurgen Klopp’s side of late.

Both keepers have come under stick from the likes of Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.

Liverpool have been linked with Roma goalie Alisson amid uncertainty over their man between the sticks.
