Argentina do not play like Messi's Barcelona, says Umtiti
Lionel Messi cannot be expected to recreate his Barcelona performances in a very different set-up with Argentina, according to club team-mate Samuel Umtiti. Argentina scraped through Group D at the World Cup and, prior to the final pool match against Nigeria, in which he scored a brilliant opener, Messi's performances drew criticism. But Umtiti, like many others, has pointed out that Messi cannot singlehandedly inspire a misfiring team, while he believes Argentina's style of play crucially differs from Barca's. The two Camp Nou stars will go head to head on Saturday when Argentina face France in the last 16. "[Messi] is different, he can't play the same way with Argentina and Barcelona," Umtiti told reporters. "He doesn't have the same players, even though in Argentina they have very good players. "It's completely different with Barcelona, it's a different playing style. 100 - Lionel Messi has scored the 100th goal at the 2018 World Cup. This is when you must worry about Leo. "The Argentinians are tough with him. I understand because of all his qualities, but he can't do everything on his own." Umtiti was surprised by Messi's mindset upon arriving at Camp Nou, immediately recognising that the Argentina man is constantly striving for more. "I really feel that he doesn't live football like others do - in the way he sees it, in the choices he makes and in the goals he scores," Umtiti said. "He just keeps scoring goals after goals. He has it in him. He doesn't like losing. He always wants to win games and titles. I didn't expect that from him because he already won everything. It's his state of mind."

Manchester United confirm £17.4m signing of Diogo Dalot, 19, from Porto on five-year deal

MANCHESTER UNITED have completed the signing of Diogo Dalot from Porto.

The 19-year-old defender has passed a medical and penned a five-year contract after the Red Devils met his £17.4million release clause.

Jose Mourinho said: “Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club.

“He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.”

Having completed his move to England, the youngster is hoping to repay the faith shown in him by his fellow countryman.

And he cannot wait to get started and learn from the Special One in the Premier League.

Speaking to MUTV, Dalot said: “It was very important to make this choice and I hope to help him, because I know that he will help me to improve a lot.

“I’m very excited for the dimension of this club and I hope to get great things here.

“I know that this is one of the best clubs in the world and it is unbelievable to be here and I hope to achieve great things.”

Dalot only broke through into Porto’s first team this year but has done enough in that short time to convince Mourinho he has the potential to dethrone Antonio Valencia.

And his versatility is one of the key things that has impressed.

Dalot, added: “Yeah, I prefer to play at right-back, but if I need to play in any position, I will play, no problem.

“I’m very instant in improving and I’m mostly a hard-working player, I think.

“I’m very excited. For me, it is one of the biggest leagues in the world and I’m excited to play there.

“I’m looking forward to meeting my colleagues, to meet the staff, to meet every person and to hopefully help in some way.

“Just expect that I will give everything for this club, for this shirt and, hopefully, help the club to win. That’s the most important thing.”

The talented teen is the second new arrival at the Theatre of Dreams this week as Mourinho wastes no time in bolstering his squad.

United announced yesterday that they had completed the £52m signing of Brazilian star Fred.

The midfielder has penned a five-year with the Red Devils after joining from Shakhtar Donetsk.

A devoted family man, Southgate has often talked about the importance of having a stable foundation behind him.

Who is Gareth Southgate’s wife Alison and when did they get married?

SOUTHGATE and Alison met when the England boss was a trainee at Crystal Palace.

Together since they were teenagars, the pair were married in July 1997 and have now been together 20 years.

The couple were married near Southgate’s family home in Crawley.

Southgate has talked about the importance of maintaining a normal parent-child relationship, despite his time-sapping and full-on job.

He told the Standard last summer: “Over the last couple of weeks I’ve just had a nice time spending it with the family though, and for me that’s important because my kids are 18 and 14, and their development is as important for me as anything else in my life.

“You do have to try to find a balance because my focus inevitably gets drawn towards making this team as successful as we can and driving them to be the best team in the world, but I’m also a dad and a husband.”
